Academic Support

The Academic Support Department (ASD) supports effective and co-ordinated course activities to develop student skills that underpin success. This is accomplished through the departments work with academic staff, engagement with relevant systems and process for course management. The ASD team comprises 3 members located on the ground floor at the back of the library. The team is able to focus solely on student performance and enhancing achievements supporting effective course activities for all students throughout the student lifecycle in line with Widening Participation and Equal Opportunity parameters.

The teams remit incudes:

1. One-to-one Support

Academic Support offers specialist one-to-one sessions to those learners for whom a formal referral has been made to address their specific needs. This is especially for students who have failed to submit assignments at the correct time and students with Specific Learning Difficulties. One-to-one support sessions are tailored to meet the individual learner’s needs and can include support in relevant/specific subject areas.

2. Independent learning

The idea of independent learning takes into consideration the student`s strength and weaknesses. Realising very well that, self learning is a life learning, we at FSB we are trying to inculcate independent learning to equip the students for life. Academic Staff observe their dedicated Office Hour, the students can walk-in. The student understand the learning process for self monitoring and self- motivation, evaluating and controlling the pace and direction of their work.

3. Workshops & Seminars

The Academic Support Tutors also runs interactive face-to-face workshops. These sessions are open to all students. To avoid disappointment students are required to book for the workshops as the capacity of the sessions is limited. These sessions cover some of the following areas: • Study Skills

• Basics of IT Skills
• Harvard Referencing
• E learning
• Research Skills and Problem-solving skills
• Team building
• CV's and Interview skills
